Heros

Heros: The Epic Novel

Everything you never knew you didn't know about heros plus some really obvious stuff.

I know, I know. It's on the tip of your tongue. WHO IS THE BEST HERO?! This is such a loaded question. Best for what? Battle? Hero Stages? Hunting? Resources? F2P? P2P? I'll give you info and you decide.

The primary thing to keep in mind is that they all have strengths and weakness. There is no "best" hero, so it comes down to personal preference and building a good team with all the types and useful battle skills for what you're focused on.

Who are the Heros?

Okay. In alphabetical order they are:
Barbarian, Berserker, (The) Big Guy, Black Crow, Bombin' Goblin, Chaos Dragon, Child of Light, Dark Follower, Dark Magistrate, Death Archer, Death Knight, Demon Slayer, Dream Witch, Elementalist, Ethereal Guide, Femme Fatale, Grim Wolf, Grove Guardian, Incinerator, Lightweaver, Lore Weaver, Master Cook, Night Raven, Oath Keeper, Petite Devil, Prima Donna, Prince of Thieves, Rose Knight, Sage of Storms, Scarlet Bolt, Sea Squire, Shade, Shapeshifter, Snow Queen, Songstress of the Sea, Soul Forger, Steambot, Storm Fox, Tracker, Trickster, Twilight Princess, Vengeful Centaur, Watcher, and Witch Doll.

How Can I Get Heros?

When you first start the game, you're given two heros: Oath Keeper and Dealth Archer. From there you can unlock additional heros by obtaining medals specific to each Hero. Get them by completing Hero Stages, sweeping Elite Hero Stages, completing events, or by purchasing them in the mall. You need 10 medals to hire a hero.

How Many Heros are There?

44 Total:
• Earned from Hero Stages: 20
• Earned from Events: 2
• Purchased from the Mall: 19 Regular & 3 Special

Which Heros are Which?

What is the Difference Between a "Regular" Paid Hero and a "Special" Paid Hero?

"Regular" Paid Heros are in the mall and can be hired with a purchase as low as $5. The "Special" Paid Heros are Dark Magister, Shape Shifter, & Lightweaver. Why are they "Special"? A few reasons. Their grades have a higher boost percentage. They are unique because they have Battle Skills for more than one troop type. But they are also "Special" because it is $99 for 3 medals. So basically $400 just to hire one and $11,000 to get one to gold. If you've got a spare $33,000, let me know. I'll send you my PayPal info.

Who do you think is "Best" in the Broad Scope?

Okay, this is just my opinion, but here goes.

Free Heros:
1. Rose Knight
2. The primary hero for your focus troop type:
• Demon Slayer - infantry
• Snow Queen - ranged
• Child of Light - cavalry
3. Trickster
4. The primary for the other two troop types
5. Prima Donna
6. Bombin' Goblin

Paid Heros:
1. Lore Weaver
2. Berserker
3. Songstress
4. Big Guy

Why Those?

F2P
1. Rose Knight is the "best" free hero there is. She has high HP, healing capabilities, and an Army ATK boost. She's great in battle, the Colosseum, and hero stages.

2. Demon Slayer, Snow Queen, and Child of Light have both an ATK boost and an HP boost for their command type. They're all great for battle. Demon Slayer is part of your core AGI monster hunting team and great in the Colosseum - not so much in hero stages. Snow Queen and Child of Light are both okay in the Colosseum. Snow Queen sometimes comes up on the INT hunting team. Child of Light has a great stun AOE hero skill that is very useful in hero stages.

3. Trickster's administrative battle skills are awesome. He's got a research boost and two hunting boosts. He's not really a battle hero, but he is good in the Colosseum and for hero stages. Plus he's part of the core AGI hunting team.

4. See 2.

5. Prima Donna is basically going to be your healer if your F2P. You need her for hero stages and the Colosseum. She comes up often as part of the INT hunting team. She's got good battle skills for siege; however, siege rarely needs a boost and you shouldn't station her on your wall.

6. Bombin' Goblin is the only free hero aside from Rose Knight that has Army ATK boost. And he is also part of the core INT hunting team. The reason he's not higher on this list is because his other Battle Skills are trap related (so not as useful) and he's not nearly as strong as she is since he's INT and she's STR.

P2P
Lore Weaver, Berserker, and Songstress of the Sea each have all 3 Army boosts for Battle Skills. Each commands a different troop type.

1. Lore Weaver - Cavalry: Lore Weaver is basically my favorite hero. Even if your primary troop type isn't Cavalry, she's worth the investment in my opinion. She's a great healer. Unfortunately, it's a radial blast skill (directed circle) instead of a scatter skill (hits everyone no matter where they are), so Prima Donna has that over her, but Lore Weaver also has a second healing skill where she throws a hammer around and heros get some HP recovered. Plus when she dies, she sends HP to the remaining heros. She's awesome in battle and basically a core hero if you want to compete in the top ranks of the Colosseum.

2. Berserker - Infantry: Again. Awesome in battle. Great in the Colosseum. Lore Weaver plus Berserker? Top 10 Colosseum material for sure. She is a TANK. Her Battle Skills are exactly the same as Lore Weaver and Songstress of the Sea, so it just comes down to personal preference of troop type and the special hero skills.

3. Songstress of the Sea - Ranged: Again. Same Battle Skills. She's my least favorite of the three, but if you ask around I'm sure someone will give you just as gleaming a recommendation for her as I do for Lore Weaver.

4. Big Guy - Infantry: He's the only pay hero that has a fixed price and is always available in the mall. The rest of the pay heros you need to wait for them to show up in the mall package cycle and you can spend $5 every time or drop several hundred and get them to gold all at once. So his advantage is that you can have a gold hero very early for not too much cash (relative to purchasing any other hero to gold at once) and his packs come with a little bit of extra stuff. He's good for what he is: okay in the Colosseum, good in battle, helpful in the Hero stages, has a construction boost; but he's not a great paid hero in general and useless for hunting. He's amazing if you get him and gold right away because he can seriously help with doing the hero stages, the Colosseum, and battles early on. Not so much later in the game.

Who are the Event Heros?

• Watcher - Infantry: He's got good battle skills, but he's very difficult to get and to upgrade (change colors). You get him by completing Hell Events. Sometimes. When his medals are offered as prizes for completing the third stage of a Hell Event is completely random. Research Hell Events are the best in my opinion because it's "easy" to finish a big research and complete the 3rd stage if you time it right. Building Hell Events are hardly ever worth it. Training can be done if you've got the speeds and resources, but it takes a ton of troops. The monster ones? Maybe. But it's usually only 1 medal where building and research is 3.

• Chaos Dragon - Cavalry: Ditto Watcher except he's even more difficult because you usually only get 1 medal in Hell Events and need to complete the third stage of a 24hr challenge to get the 3 medals.

What are the Hero Types?

Each hero is classified as either AGI (blue wing), INT (purple swirl), or STR (gold fist).

• AGI (agility) heros are your more cunning types. Their battle skills are typically physical, but in a unique way. For instance, Black Crow is just an archer, right? But she does back flips and shoots, like, 20 at once.

• INT (intelligence) heros are your magic types. All the healers and everyone who does freaky inhuman things fall into this category.

• STR (strength) heros are your brute force types. They'll just smash the crap out of anything - or anyone - who gets in their way.

Think if it like this: if presented with a locked door, the AGI hero would pick the lock, steal the key, or sweet talk someone into opening it. The INT would basically use Alohomora (that's a magic spell that opens doors for you Muggles). The STR would just Hulk his way in and bash down the door or walk through the wall next to it.

Each type is better at something than the other types. Under the basic attributes, Strength increases ATK for STR heros. Dexterity increases ATK for AGI heros. Intelligence increases MATK for INT heros. Something to also keep in mind is that only AGI & INT are good for Monster Hunting.

What's with the Colors?

At the bottom right of the main hero screen, you'll see what grade your hero currently is, how many medals you currently have, and how many you'll need to increase his grade. You gain medals by sweeping Elite Hero Stages, Completing Events, or Purchasing them.

There are 5 grades: grey is common. All heros start at common once they've been hired. To get to uncommon, which is green, you'll need to get 20 additional medals. So 30 total since the medals used to hire or upgrade a hero get used. Blue is rare and takes 50 medals. Purple is Epic and takes 100 medals. And Gold is Legendary and takes 150 medals.

That's a total of 330 medals for those of you playing along at home. But the better the hero grade, the better his skills. F2P heros drop medals from Elite Hero Stage levels at an average of 3.54 for every sweep of 10. This means it will cost approximately 94 Bravehearts or 11,280 stamina to max a F2P hero from hire to gold. There is a list of medal costs for the P2P heros further down in this novel.

How Can I Level my Heros?

Increase your hero's level by gaining experience. A hero gains experience by:
• Participating in Hero Stages
• Eating food obtained when sweeping Hero Stages
• Battling in the Colosseum
Monster Hunting

I think the easiest way to level your heros is to hunt monsters. The hero gains XP and you get loot. Win/win. Just make sure you kill it so your guild gets loot too. Don't be that guy who hits the monster down to 80% and leaves it sit there until reset. Not cool, bro.

What are Battle Skills?

These are the skills that will help you in battle and grow your Turf. Hero Battle Skills have three types:

Tactical: this is the skill at the top and gives you a squad bonus. What that means is that the squad this hero is commanding will get the boost each time it activates. It's not on all the time, but it can activate a couple of times per battle.

Logistical: Logistic Battle Skills are used in combat. If he has more than one logistical skill, they will all be active as long as the type of skill applies to the battle. If it is an army boost, there doesn't need to be any of the troop type that hero specifically commands - it helps if there is because then you get the tactical skill boost on top of the army boost, but it's not necessary. If the skill is troop specific you need that troop type in the Battle to get the boost. If it is a trap attack skill, this activates when you are the attacker, but is only useful if what you're attacking has a wall. No wall, no traps. The wall defense, trap HP, and trap defense skills only come into play when your turf is attacked.

Administrative - Administrate Battle Skills are activated as soon as the hero is hired and stay active. He does not need to be the leader. Admin skills are generally used to enhance your account - make things faster, better, and easier.

Each hero has one tactical skill and then a combination of 3 Administrative and/or Logical skills depending on the specific hero. The tactical skill is unlocked as soon as you hire the hero. The first battle skill unlocks when the hero reaches rank 2. The second, rank 4. The third, rank 7. Tactical and Logistical Battle Skills are only active when that specific hero is in battle. He doesn't have to be the leader - just in the Battle. It is worth repeating that Administrative Battle Skills are automatically activated as soon as you hire that hero.

Each Battle Skill has a percentage scale that increases as you upgrade your hero. They all start off as common. For example, look at Oath Keeper's Infantry HP Boost. When he is common (grey), it is a 2.5% boost. When you upgrade him to uncommon (green), the skill gets a 5% boost instead. These don't stack - they just replace each other. As you collect more medals and continue to upgrade him, the boost gets bigger. Different skills have different percentage scales, but every skill is enhanced when the hero is upgraded.

Look at what your heros do before assigning them. Don't send admin only to battle. Don't send Prima Donna if you don't send seige or if your assigning heros to your wall. Choose carefully so you don't accidentally suck up a spot someone who could do something to aide could be in.

What are Special Hero Skills?

This is the special stuff your hero does when he's fighting a monster, battling in the Colosseum, or navigating a hero stage. There are four types of Hero Skills:

Ultimate: this is the skill that is available to activate once the MP bar fills up. If you're fighting a monster or battling in the Colosseum, this will automatically be used once you reach max MP. In hero stages, you can activate and direct this skill yourself.

Active: these skills come on every so often during a match. You don't do anything or need to wait for something specific to occur, they just happen.

Passive: these skills are just something your hero has. Kind of like an Administrative Battle Skill, he just needs to exist in order to use this skill.

Triggered: These skills require a special circumstances in order to be activated. It's usually when someone dies.

Each hero has one Ultimate skill and 3 additional skills in any combination of Active, Passive, and Triggered. The Ultimate skill is unlocked as soon as you hire the hero. The first Hero Skill unlocks when the hero reaches rank 2. The second, rank 4. The third, rank 7.

Unlike Battle Skills that increase with your hero's grade, Hero Skills increase with each Hero level to a maximum determined by the skill. The caps are 20, 40, and 60. It will tell you when a skill has been maxed.

There are a couple different kind of Ultimate Skill types.

Heros that have an AOE (area of effect) Hero Skill are going to be the ones that effect many enemies at once.
• You've got your flame blast type, like Trickster, Oath Keeper, and Snow Queen where they shoot off from themselves in kind of a cone shape.
• Then there are the radial blast type, like Child of Light, Bomin' Goblin, Sage of Storms, and Demon Slayer. They hit in a circle pattern. Sometimes around them, sometimes where you you direct it.
• Then there are the scatter types, like Night Raven and Prima Donna. Their powers hit everyone on the screen at once.

Another kind of Ultimate Hero Skill is a single targeted hit. Heros like Tracker and Death Archer can only use their skill on one target, but it usually packs a pretty big punch.

Rose Knight's Ultimate Skill is kind of in between AOE and target. She throws her shield and it can bounce off multiple enemies. You get to pick which enemy it starts with if you direct this skill, but then the game takes over.

The more you use the heros, the more familiar with what they do and how they do it you'll become.

Which are Good Heroes for Hero Stages?

So, general rule of thumb for Hero Stages is you're going to want to take a healer, a tank, a strong damage dealer, an area of effect stunner, and the 5th be whatever died first on your first run. No, seriously. You'll see what I mean. Sometimes you're going to want two stunners. Sometimes you're going to want two tanks. Trial and error is a great teacher.

So for healers, Prima Donna is going to be your primary healer unless you invest in Lore Weaver. Prima Donna's advantage over Lore Weaver (aside from being free) is that her healing skill is a scatter type, where as Lore Weaver's is a radial blast circle. This means when someone wanders away from the pack (yeah, I'm looking at you Demon Slayer), you have to pick who gets healed and who doesn't. Rose Knight has a bit of healing and Child of Light has a protective bubble, so they can be support healing, but you'll need someone else to do the heavy lifting. Sea Squire and Dark Follower heal too, but they're a little too squishy for my taste.

"Tanks" are Strength Heros that have a very high HP and aren't going to die on you right away. Your first tank option is Oath Keeper. Then probably Child of Light. He's got a great AOE Stun Hero Skill that should help. Later you're going to add Rose Knight to lead just about everything. Death Knight comes in handy doing the later Stages because of his fancy resurrection trick.

Damage dealers are exactly what it sounds like: heros who do a lot of damage. Even though Tracker has a single target Ultimate Hero Skill, I find her to be very effective. Black Crow and Demon Slayer are also good damage dealers in my opinion.

Stunners are Heros that have Ultimate Hero Skills that immobilize your enemy. When used in combination with your damage hero's Ultimate skill, it can be extremely effective. My favorite stunners are Child of Light, Trickster, and Snow Queen.
